We are moving to Epic, finally! I have never worked in Epic, but would love advice, best practices, tips for fetal care in Epic. It is my understanding that you can create a space for an unborn baby in Epic so that notifications/plans/orders can be placed prior to delivery. Would love your thoughts and test examples, if possible.

Hi Liz, happy to jump on a call and answer questions. We use EPIC at our facility, but the ambulatory module in our clinic. We do pre-admit a BabyFetus for every fetal encounter which helps with expeditious admission to our pediatric hospital. This creates an actual MRN that can be used for orders. We don’t pre chart on that encounter however. Our situation is unique in that our patients deliver at Prentice across the bridge and only those needing admission to Lurie for pediatric specialty care are transferred to us (which is a significant amount of our fetal patients).
