MelissaHollar For centers that place fetal shunts, do you provide a medical card to the mother after placement that includes the device name and lot #? For other implantable devices (in peds and adults), the device usually comes with a card. The Harrison shunts do not. I’m wondering what other centers provide the patient with at discharge to keep until delivery. TIA! Melissa mhollar1@iuhealth.org
hugheye We do not, as it is not considered an implant (i think that is determined by the FDA?). It is considered a drain, which is temporary. We do not provide any specific info to the pregnant person.
