Hi Sarah, happy to jump on a call with you if it is easier. We have been doing fetoscopic MMC repair for about a year and a half so post surgical management is a little different. When we did open, patients stayed in the hospital for about 5 days post surgery, then went to Ronald McDonald house for extended recovery. We would then see them every week in our center with US and they would also see our MFMs for prenatal care while in Chicago. They would also have a follow up MRI at 30 weeks and a delivery planning meeting at 34 weeks. Most would deliver in Chicago with us. However, in certain cases, they may be released back to their primary providers if: they had good support and transportation, had a MFM office that was comfortable with post op imaging and management, lived close to an appropriate level of hospital (not 2 hrs away, etc), and had a Peds neurosurgeon at the hospital to manage the baby after delivery. Hope that helps!
